Food Waste Action Week 2023 - Win. Don’t Bin
The UK’s biggest annual food waste reduction campaign is back!
Thalia Waste Management at Allerton Waste Recovery Park is proud to announce that we'll be supporting Love Food Hate Waste’s Food Waste Action Week campaign taking place from 6 – 12 March with the theme: Win. Don’t Bin.
We will be joining Love Food Hate Waste to show how you can save time and money by making the most of the food you buy.
This year’s rallying cry of Win. Don’t Binstarts a week of action which brings the nation together to save time and money by making the food we already have go further.
With a bit of forward planning here, and a dash of savvy storage there; you can enjoy those little winning moments in life of having tomorrow’s lunch sorted the night before or defrosting that spare portion of spag bol for a quick and easy dinner.
Did you know?
- According to WRAP, 70% of the food wasted in the UK is wasted by people in their own homes. That’s 4.5 million tonnes of food that could have been eaten being thrown away every year.
- 81% of people are concerned about climate change, however only 37% realise the connection with wasting food (WRAP research June 2020).
We can make a big impact when it comes to reducing the amount of food that goes to waste in the UK – the power is in all our hands.
Throughout this week we’ll be posting top tips and facts on our social media pages, and you can come to Knaresborough Market on Wednesday 8 March where we will be joining the North Yorkshire Rotters supporting their Food Waste Action Week initiatives from 9am to 2pm.
To find out what happens to the food waste you throw in the bin, book a tour of Allerton Waste Recovery Park, email[email protected] to book our place or to find out more.
Join us in getting involved and find out how you can save time and money.
Allerton Waste Recovery Park is operated by Thalia Waste Management in partnership with City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council.
The facility brings together state-of-the-art technologies to make the most of rubbish from homes in York and North Yorkshire. Reducing the amount of household waste going to landfill in the county by 90%. Diverting this waste away from landfill means it can be used to generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes.
We have an on-site Education and Visitor Centre offering talks, tours and activities for residents, schools and community groups – contact [email protected]
