Voting safely in the forthcoming elections

Riccall Parish

On Thursday 6 May residents in the Selby district will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them. Elections will take place for the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire. There will also be by-elections for the Camblesforth and Carlton district ward and for Church Fenton Parish Council.

For those who choose to vote in person, polling stations will be safe places to vote on 6 May. Voters are encouraged to keep themselves and others safe by:

· Wearing a face covering

· Bringing their own pen or pencil

· Cleaning their hands when entering and leaving the polling station

· Keeping a safe distance

Voters should not attend the polling station if they have symptoms of Covid-19, or if they have been asked to self-isolate.

Janet Waggott, Police Area Returning Officer (PARO), said: “The elections are very important – they’re an opportunity to make your voice heard and have a say on who is elected to these organisations and wards.

“We’re putting arrangements in place to help you stay safe at the polling station; you can expect many of the measures you’ve become used to in shops and banks over recent months, such as hand sanitiser, floor markings and face masks. Residents should be reassured that voting in these elections will take place in a Covid-safe environment.”

Residents can visit the FAQ page on the website at www.selby.gov.uk/elections2021 to find out more about the elections on 6 May.

There are provisions in place to apply for an emergency proxy vote if required because of work, medial or reasons relating to Covid-19. You should contact the Electoral Registration Team if this applies to you – by calling 01757 705101 or by emailing [email protected].
