Barlby Roundabout Newsletter 04. Weeks 5 & 6 commencing 24th October 2016

This is the fourth edition of the newsletter that will keep you up to date with the progress of the roundabout construction on the existing A19/A163 Market Weighton Road junction and also changes to the existing York Road junction.

Over the past couple of weeks we have been excavating to the north and south of Market Weighton Road for the construction of the new carriageway. We have also imported stone for the carriageway construction and commenced installing the kerbs.

The image below shows the base of the kerbs being installed. These type of kerbs are called 'combined drainage kerbs' as they collect water from the surface of the carriageway as an alternative to using traditional gullies.

Over the next 2 weeks the works will continue to focus on the areas of the new roundabout that do not impinge on the current junction and therefore should have little affect on traffic.

During the second week works will commence to divert the existing Yorkshire Water main around the edge of the site.

Advance notice of temporary traffic lights on the A19 and Market Weighton Road

From the Friday 4th November we will need to install temporary 3 way traffic lights to close off a lane of the A19 to ensure the safety of our workers as we install the new water main adjacent to the A19. The temporary traffic lights will be in operation daily between 9.30 am and 4pm. The A19 and Market Weighton Road will be returned to full lane running outside these times.

The 3 way traffic lights will continue to be in operation Monday to Friday for approximately the next 9 weeks. The A19 and Market Weighton Road will remain fully open during this period. Please allow extra time within your journey to allow for some disruption due to the temporary traffic lights during the hours noted above.

Please also be mindful of the temporary enforceable reduction in the speed limit of 60 mph to 40 mph to protect our workforce.
